How to Check Spare-Part Fitment Before Ordering

A clear spare-parts enquiry can save a long exchange of messages and help avoid ordering the wrong item. Whether you are looking for a headlight, filter, mirror or another component for a European vehicle, the most useful question is specific: does this exact part match this exact vehicle and the intended job?

Use the following checklist before placing an order. It helps organise a purchase; it does not replace a qualified technician’s diagnosis or the vehicle manufacturer’s fitting instructions.

Start with the diagnosis

A warning light, noise or fault description is useful background, but it is not a part number. If the cause has not been confirmed, arrange an inspection first. Ask your technician to identify the component required and whether related checks are necessary before replacement.

Keep the diagnosis separate from the shopping question. “My car will not start” and “I need this verified replacement component” require different next steps. Buying on a guess may leave the original problem unresolved.

Prepare a short vehicle profile

Write down the make, model, production year, body style, engine information and transmission type where known. Share the VIN or chassis details privately when needed for identification. Do not post a logbook, identity document or unrelated personal information in a public comment.

Tell the supplier if you know the vehicle has been modified or fitted with a different component. If a detail is uncertain, mark it as unknown and ask how to verify it. Accuracy is more useful than filling every field with an assumption.

Use the part number and a catalogue check

Photograph the existing part’s label or markings if accessible without dismantling the vehicle. Ask a technician for help when access requires removal. Include the complete number, as a missing character can make a search less useful.

Manufacturer catalogues can help connect vehicle applications and part numbers. Bosch, for example, describes OE cross-references and replacement-part identification in its Part Finder. Ask the supplier to explain the catalogue match for the proposed item, especially if its number differs from the old part. A similar photograph alone is not a fitment check.

Agree on the exact item

For sided or position-specific items, state left or right as viewed from inside the vehicle facing forward, and specify front or rear. Confirm the quantity: one item, a pair, a set or a kit.

Request a written quote that identifies the brand, part number, condition, included components, availability and total cost. Ask what any description such as “genuine” or “OEM” means for that specific offer, and what evidence supports it. Do not treat a general website claim as proof for every product.

Check before fitting

Keep the order confirmation, packaging and delivery details. Have the delivered item checked against the agreed specification before installation or modification. If something differs, contact the seller promptly and ask for the next step rather than forcing the part to fit.

Contact PekimuDriveParts on WhatsApp or call +254 704 156 342 with your vehicle profile and available part number. Ask for fitment confirmation, an itemised quote and the applicable delivery and returns terms before ordering.
